A Year of the Dram

It hasn’t quite been a year since I started the Dram but I just renewed the domain for 12 more months and I got the bug to write. On February 10, 2009, I started off with A Fine Dram (Manifesto?). In some ways it has gone exactly as planned. In most ways it has been very different.

I had this idea that the Dram would be this repository of columns by people all over the net. I’d write and post photos and videos as well as edit it. I kind of held those cards close to the old vest. Good thing, too. I now know that not only would that have been tremendously difficult to achieve and maintain, but that I would have hated doing it. 

Instead, the site has been a place for me to showcase my thoughts, my favorite links, my photos, my videos in my own way. Sometimes I go too long without posting but I’m proud of what I have posted. I think I’ve consistently valued quality over quantity. 

To satisfy my urges to post garbage to the internet I have begun a second site. Feel free to check out bathtub gin but don’t say I didn’t warn you…

As for contributors, I’m not entirely sure that experiment has panned out. I understand why, though. It’s hard enough for me to post on a regular basis and I own the damn thing. It must be tough to find the impetus to write for someone else’s site. I’m always going to make the site available to my two contributors, my brother Randy and Mr. Fish, but I won’t be soliciting any new authors. Not that any were beating down my door anyway.

I have had a blast doing the site and I hope to keep doing it for a very long time. It will continue to be what it has all along: Whatever I feel it should be at that moment. I’m going to try to increase the amount of original content, both written and photo, but don’t be surprised to see a few more, “Man, I really need to post more,” posts in the next 12 months.
